During a signing ceremony held in April 2006 at the SAE 2006 World Congress, Detroit, MI, USA, CATARC Vice President Zhang Jianwei noted that the partnership will benefit both organizations, as well as the Chinese automotive industry.

The benefits of SAE International's products and programs are extended to China's mobility engineering community through the cooperative activities of SAE and the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC), China's standards-setting organization that functions as a link between government and industry.

This partnership ensures that a wealth of activities will occur in the areas of individual and organizational learning, standards development and application, and specialized programs based on specific needs of China's automotive industry with the goal of improving automotive engineering expertise in China.

SAE International's China office is co-located with the Shanghai CATARC Automotive Research Center in the Pudong district of Shanghai.
